Veterans Day Parade 2009

When did Peace become political? Since the invasion of Iraq, Veterans For Peace has been banned from Milwaukee's Veterans Day Parade. Reason given: our logo is too political. All veterans should be allowed to march in the parade.

Last year as we stood on the sidelines, we were warmly received by parade participants and spectators, whose generous donations helped launch our homeless veterans outreach program. But, as much of the public and other veterans groups aren't aware of the fact that we are not issued a permit to march, some controversy and false stories have arisen from us standing on the curb as the parade goes by. Our chapter includes veterans from WWII thru Iraq and the story that we protested other veterans is absurd and personally offensive.
